Our trip to Garut, West Java, two weeks ago was about finding a good customized leather jacket for husband. The region is indeed among a few of well-known areas for leather production in Indonesia. But I am here today not to talk about the leather and such. Matter of fact I would like to introduce you to my new favorite of Liwet Pak Asep Stroberi.
WHERE TO EAT IN GARUT?
I shouted the questions on my chat group. A lot of my friends are from West Java. Surely they would know places to eat in Garut. I also put the same question on my personal Facebook. The answer was only one: Liwet Pak Asep Stroberi.
Honestly speaking I was a bit reluctant at first to go there. Stroberi in English means Strawberry and I was not in the mood to eat strawberry for lunch. Fortunately we passed the restaurant on our way to a leather jacket store so upon returning we decided to give it a try.
One word: DELICIOUS!
LIWET PAK ASEP STROBERI
The restaurant is not a fancy one where you can fine dine. It resembles traditional village with huts made of bamboo circling a big rectangular pool where you are allowed to fish. It’s really a down to earth concept but the food is lovely and tasteful.
We ordered a menu package for 4 people at total amount of IDR 160,000.- (approx USD16). Sugarless hot teas were served automatically. For free. The menu consisted of a big pan of liwet rice, roasted chicken, fried tofu, salted fish and Sundanese salad. The sambal was awesome!
WILL I GO BACK AGAIN?
Hell yeah! Liwet Pak Asep Stroberi is going to be one of our destinations whenever we visit Garut again.
Note: Liwet rice probably sounds foreign to you. Wikipedia offers the exact description of it: “a succulent rice dish cooked in coconut milk, chicken broth and spices, from Solo, Central Java, Indonesia”.
