I feel like this is an endless subject. Did you remember that I had
tried started a weight loss journey series to keep me stay on track with my weight loss effort? And then it just stopped because well basically I did stop trying. For sometimes. Now, it has been a month I totally cut my rice intakes. Please note, I am cutting off rice and not the carb entirely.
Because I am Indonesian. Rice is our main staple. There is this common perception in our culture that no matter how many noodles or steaks you eat you still don’t consider your self “eat” if you haven’t had rice. Also it is common habit when you eat the rice overtakes the plate. Not to mention that most of our food are only soooo good if you enjoy it with rice.
Therefore I would say that for me being able to keep rice at bay for a whole month is indeed a big deal. I am determined to continue for sure!
Most of my friends don’t want to do this kind of diet because, again, eating rice is our everyday life. It takes more than just a strong determination to stay away from rice. Tips to stay away from rice without feeling suffer:
1. Educate people at home. It is hard when you are the only one to try not having rice and have lunch surrounded by people who eats rice. So you really need to ask for support from your family.
2. Cook vegetables using interesting recipe, make it so good that you can forget about rice completely.
3. Snack on fruits and nuts.
4. Don’t go to a restaurant who only serve Indonesian food. Particularly for Indonesian, do not go to Padang Restaurant! The food are tempting, heavily contained coconut milk, rich of herbs and only delicious eaten with hot steamed rice. Ough!
Now let’s go to the evolution part!
Year 2012 is when the transition begun. Growing bigger from the thinnest form of myself was slowly but steady. The next thing I knew by year 2013 I am just as big as Hagrid. Well okay maybe not so much but I was indeed ballooning:
Look at me in my glorious years, single and happy! (ha..ha..ha..)
Even 4 months after delivering K I had slowly slipped in to my original size (and singing in a band on New Year’s Eve):
Got some cultural shock when moved overseas with J and the two little rascals. I love this size of my body but some of my friends said I was too thin:
Here is me now after one month out of rice (if you follow me on Instagram and Twitter you would know this is fresh because I just posted this picture yesterday):
Surely I need super strong determination to lose weight fast. Do you know Scoops of Joy? Maureen has not been writing so often these days but I have been following her work out via instagram and Facebook. Her strive is too be healthy rather than to lose weight. Though both of us have different direction, but she is one of motivations.
Tell me, are you trying to lose some weight too? How far have you come in this journey?
