a Big News, a New Adventure and a New Beginning (all over again)

So here is the big news: I finally got my internet connection! Yaiy! And the bigger news: We have moved again! Yeap, we are now back in Indonesia, not sure yet if this is for good but I got a feeling that this would be for a quite long time. I have had enough that I have told my husband to stop moving around. I love traveling overseas but if we have never set our foot on one ground when are we going to be settled or to feel settled?

This relocation was not really pre-planned and as a matter of fact it was pretty much rock ‘n roll. Now we are in Medan, a capital city of North Sumatera, the fourth largest cities in Indonesia after Jakarta, Surabaya and Bandung. We have been hunting for a house the past few weeks and the hunting have been really frustrating. Finding a house is not as easy as flipping your hand because you need to feel it. You need to feel the ambience, the neighborhood and especially, the budget.

Unlike other countries, here in Jakarta or Indonesia in general, apartments are considered luxury. The price is way more expensive than a house. Therefore, although I feel more convenient and comfortable to stay in an apartment, our bank account says the otherwise. We have found one house that has it all. It is located in a busy area, right on the street side, three rooms, relatively new, not so big and meets our budget. But on the day we were to pay the down payment for one year rent we found out that the house has a water problem. It is a two story house but the water didn’t get to the top floor. So we, sadly, have to let it go.

Now we have found another house which we are going to make a full payment for one year rent this Saturday. Three rooms, new house but located quite far from the city center. But Medan is not really that big. I mean, you can never get lost in this city. However you may lose your insanity due to the traffic. People don’t care so much if it is red or green. As long as the road is empty they will just keep going. My friend told me unless the red light has gone purple (which is impossible) the car will keep going.

At the moment we are staying in a studio apartment located in the city center. It would be great if they have two bedroom. But even if they have I don’t think we can afford it. First I thought it would be a great scenario to drive my husband to his office and then pick him up in the evening. By doing that I will have the car for the whole day. I can take the kids to the mall if I get bored in the house. But then, the traffic is really killing my sanity. On the first day I picked my husband from his office I felt exhausted. I couldn’t think of doing it again the next day and the next day and the next day. So I decided to let him drive himself. I am giving myself time for another month before I have to drive (there is no choice) to drop the boys to school.

My happiness is complete today because the internet is back for both my laptop and my iPad. I am in the middle of deciding whether to go back working office hour or running my own business. I have applied for one position available, the very position that I would love to be if ever I go back to my career path. I am still waiting for the feedback because the vacancy closing time is still for another one week. If that is a no-go, then my own business is definitely my thing.

How about you mom? What is your dream job if ever you go back to a career path?

Congratulations on your new move! I know how exciting, yet overwhelming a move is, but it sounds like you are happy with where you are at. I am surprised that apartments are considered a luxury there. I think it’s the complete opposite here lol. When I lived in an apartment I was always terrified of some other family burning the whole place down. Now that we have a house, I guess it will be our own fault if that ever happens ๐Ÿ˜‰

I hope everyting works out for your career. That’s exciting too! So many life changes going on for you right now is surely making you a busy busy girl :)

thank you ๐Ÿ˜€ Indeed here house is lesser expensive than an apartment…strange isn’t it? considering an apartment doesn’t give you your own land, no backyard. Your fear of fire is normal because I used to have it too lol! I always make plan how to escape incase of a fire hahaha…
