The Mommagazine for every moms in motherhood's super craziness

Up, Close and Personal with TJ

Measuring Flower was one of blogs I found that has given lots of inspiration to keep blogging. We met for the first time through myblogguest.com just before my departure for a long vacation. I was still with Flavour, Fashion and Fun and soon after that, Cutecoconut was born.

Today, Cutecoconut is proudly presenting you with the talent, the hand, the head, the everything behind this amazing blog, TJ who is going to share a bit about herself and her blogging ‘career’. Once you finished getting to know about her here, pay her a visit at Measuring Flower.

Cutecoconut (C): Would you please tell us a bit about yourself (where you from, what do you do, your hobby and something like that)

TJ : I am a twenty-something stay-at-home wife and mom to a one year old son (plus a second son in the oven–due January 28)! I have a bachelor of science degree in writing plus double minors in education and Bible. I am a former non-formally trained chef. I love to cook, do cake decorating, and play games or do crafts with my toddler.

C : When did you start blogging and how did you start it?

TJ : My blog originated in about May of 2010 as “The Savvy Saver.” I had just discovered the world of couponing and it was my outlet to inform my friends and family how to coupon themselves. Writing this hobby blog reignited my passion for writing (hence the reason I majored in the subject in college). Thus, in October of 2010, I purchased a new blog under the domain name “Measuring Flower” and began writing regularly. By about February of 2011, I had learned a lot of the ropes of this blogging business and made it into a part-time job. It now helps us get groceries on the table and helps me stay a stay-at-home mom!

C : Is Measuring Flower your first blog? What is behind the name?

TJ : Measuring Flower is my first serious blog. It is so-named playing off the fact that I love to cook (hence measuring) and I love God’s creation and creativity in general (hence flower).

C : So tell us what is Measuring Flower all about and where do you want to take your blog in the future?

TJ : Measuring Flower is a blog for frugal moms who love their families. It is a place to discover tried and true recipes, menu plans, a few DIY projects, blogging opportunities, blog hops, honest reviews, awesome giveaways, and more creativity for everyday. I plan on continuing to expand my blog so that it might generate more income to keep me a stay-at-home mom while simultaneously adding features and content that will be appealing to both my regular readers and my fellow-bloggers.

C : Where do you get your contents mostly?

TJ : I just think of them. Often I come up with my most brilliant ideas while taking a shower, attempting to sleep at night, or playing outside with my son.

C :D o you have any specific time to blog?

TJ : Usually, I do the bulk of my blogging when my son naps and occasionally in the evenings (although I evade writing in the evenings because I like to set that time aside to spend with my husband when he gets home from work).

C : You host lots of blog hops, how do you manage all that and not lose track on all the links there?

TJ : Once a month (usually in the last two weeks of the month), I make all the linkies and email them to my co-hostesses. Then I make all the hop posts all at once and set them each to auto-schedule. It actually becomes no more than maybe a 3-hour max task per month.

C : What are your favorite blogs and why do you like them?

TJ : Kevin and Amanda was the inspiration behind my beginning to blog. I saw what she was doing and thought, hey, I can do that! I also enjoy Just Married with Coupons because of the blogger opps Dawn offers and Org Junkie because the organizing inspirations that Laura shares.

C : Measuring Flower is like, one of the happening blogs you ever found, what’s the secret?

TJ : Making my blog grow takes a LOT of work. I participate in quite a few blog hops wherein I do the majority of the following (maybe 20% of those blogs I follow reciprocate); I participate in blog events; I host blog events; and I keep up with answering questions or comments from my readers. Because of my attention to my following and because of the care and detail I put into each of my posts.

C : Any tips for new blogger out there?

TJ : Take advantage of blog hops and events. These will greatly help increase your traffic. Same with spotlight features such as my Star Blogger feature. This too can help boost your following. And always keep close company with fellow bloggers in your niche.

So that’s about it. I am sure you all are enjoying reading TJ’s ‘adventure’ as much as I do. Thank you so much TJ for sharing! :)
