What is Trichotillomania?

This is a rare condition which is commonly known as a hair-pulling-dissorder. Trichotillomania is a compulsive urge to pull out hairs from scalps, eyebrows or other area of the body which in some cases it leads to permanent baldness or bald patches on the head.

Medically speaking Trichotillomania is not a life threatening disease however it has high implication to one’s social life due to the condition it causes. Not many people realise about this disorder when it happens to them and due to it’s social implication this situation is often unreported.

What cause Trichotillomania and how to handle it?

The urge to pulling hairs in some people has strongly connected to boredom when they don’t have anything to do and start to picking up hair to pull. This also telling us that this compulsive behaviour does not necessarily have anything to do with self destruction or nervous habit. Although it is recently put under repetitive behaviour together with biting nails and others.

For mild manner Trichotillomania, the way to handle it is very much rely on one’s willingness. The person who has fallen into this disorder simply needs to have strong willingness to stop his habit.

However in some worst cases, the disorder could go too far that it is unstopable. The person in this category is likely to have bald patches after some period of times. This is when the social implication takes part. It is certainly not very pleasing to walk around with your head full of bald patches.
